Texas State Guard Trust Scholarship Opportunity

The Texas State Guard Trust will award two $500 scholarships this year at the NGAT Convention.
We are asking Texas State Guard Major Subordinate Unit Commanders to get this information out to your troops who have high school seniors.

There is no hard and fast criterion for the award. It will be based on merit of the recipient; the student does not need outstanding scholastic achievement to apply. We would like to have as many applicants as possible so we can find the two best recipients.

Applications Requirements:
Open to all dependents of active duty / retired TXSG soldiers.
Student must be a high school senior graduating during the 2008 school year.
Only one scholarship per family.

The application package must include:
1. A current high school transcript.
2. A one page letter from the applicant as to why they think they should be awarded the scholarship and giving details about how they want to use their education.
3. Two letters of recommendation from people not related by marriage or blood to the applicant. One letter must be from one of the applicant’s current teachers.
4. A one page letter from the parent(s) of the applicant telling us about their child.
5. A brief letter from someone in the parents TXSG chain of command letting us know they are active in their TXSG unit.
6. A page detailing school and extracurricular activities while in High School.
7. Head shot photo of applicant (digital print OK).

Application packages should be mailed to arrive NLT March 15, 2008 to:
    COL Robert Miller
    TXSG Trust Scholarship Committee
    305 Rio Vista
    Cibolo, TX 78108

The committee will review the applications make a recommendation to the TXSG Trust Board of Directors and, if they approve, will notify successful applicants before the NGAT Convention being held in Austin, TX on March 28, 29 and 30, 2008.
